A tough decision appears to have been made by Amazon Prime Video regarding one of their newest series. While there are plenty of fans for this live-action series, it looks like the show didn’t perform well enough, as Amazon’s streaming platform has announced that the series will be canceled with only one season.
This is always the kind of disappointing announcement that fans never want to hear. Sadly, however, it looks like the ratings for the series just didn’t reach the numbers Amazon was hoping for.
In fact, it appears to have made the #9 spot on the Originals chart for the Nielsen Top 10 streaming rankings before dropping off the ranks in its second week. While the series also performed well critically, it seems as though there just wasn’t enough of a dedicated audience to keep it at the top of the platform’s charts.
Without a worthwhile performance, then, Amazon Prime made the decision to outright cancel the series.
As shared via Deadline this resulted in the following cancellation:
“Prime Video has opted not to proceed with a second season of its supernatural action drama The Bondsman starring Kevin Bacon.”
The outlet explained the various ways in which the series performed during its initial run, which during its second week, it still managed to stay “on Prime Video’s platform Top 10 list, currently at No. 5 in the U.S., after holding the #1 spot earlier in its run.”
The action horror series The Bondsman stars Kevin Bacon as an undead bounty hunter named Hub Halloran. With a cast that also included Jennifer Nettles, Beth Grant, Damon Herriman, Maxwell Jenkins, and Jolene Purdy, it’s a shame to see that it didn’t captivate enough of an audience to keep going.
Of course, subscribers have become quite familiar with the way streaming services curate their content, which can often be a harsh and unforgiving landscape if a series fails to perform well enough.
