While Hallmark Channel fans know Luke Macfarlane as the romantic lead in the Hallmark movies “A Valentine’s Match,” “The Mistletoe Promise,” and “Just Add Romance,” the conversation around this actor has exploded ever since he starred alongside Billy Eichner in the groundbreaking gay romantic-comedy “Bros” in 2022. Talk of a sequel to this movie is ongoing, as of this writing, with Macfarlane telling Variety, “The only thing I told Billy is, ‘I want an opportunity to sing, too.’” Yes, Hallmark’s favorite heartthrob is a singer.
As a graduate of both the Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts and Julliard, Macfarlane has immersed himself in every facet of the arts over the years. In eighth grade, he even fronted a band with his classmates, which they called Fellow Nameless. As if that weren’t enough, Macfarlane is also a classically trained cellist and trumpet player.
When he learned that his character in the Hallmark movie “Chateau Christmas” played the violin, he made sure to take his cello with him to Canada for filming. He told TV Goodness, “I had that 14-day quarantine, so I wanted my cello in my room with me so I’d have something to do. … The original script was having [my character] play the violin, and I said, ‘Let’s change it.’” In the end, the production team used Macfarlane’s talent to their advantage.
