Last year, it was announced that a remake of the popular Star Wars video game Knights of the Old Republic for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 5 is in development from Aspyr Media. The news got a lot of fans excited as it gives them a chance to revisit the game again with updated graphics and the opportunity to play it on the current new consoles. However, it looks like the development of the game has taken a huge pause.
According to Bloomberg, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has been delayed indefinitely by Aspyr. The decision comes after they fired the game’s art director and design director this month which led them to figure out the new direction for the project.
In a series of meetings that happened in the company recently, the bosses told the employees that the project is on pause and they are now looking for new contracts and development opportunities to continue the highly-anticipated video game.

The decision also came as a surprise for some people since the vertical slice that Aspyr presented to Lucasfilm and Sony last month got the developers excited and felt that they were “on track” for the project. However, soon after, the Aspyr studio heads told the staff that the vertical slice wasn’t “where they wanted it to be” which is why they paused the project.
The report also cited sources who told them that “a disproportionate amount of time and money had gone into the demo” and “the project’s current course wasn’t sustainable.” Prior to this, they announced that the game was set for release by the end of this year. Now, the most realistic release window will be in 2025 instead.
It is disappointing to hear this news considering the anticipation and excitement for the game. Now, it looks like we have to wait at least three more years before it gets released. Hopefully, the developers will be able to put the project back on track very soon.
