Many inventions that have benefited mankind have experienced litigation, lies, and other corruptions that cast their creators in a bad light, tainting their fame and questioning whether they were the discoverers or the inventors. Another twist in history
In 1957, Gordon Gould, student at Columbia University, showed work on how and why a laser beam would be made. He didn’t want to apply for the patent until he had a device that demonstrated his work, which he had done in 1959. When applying for the patent, he discovered that the Patent and Invention Office they deliberated on Shawlow and Townes’ request. It took two decades of legal battles to obtain certain licenses inherent in the invention.

Maiman was one of the readers of Townes and Shawlow’s paper and decided to put it into practice using a ruby crystal as an optical medium, placed between two tough silver mirrors and stimulated by a flash lamp powerful. The experiment worked and it was then the first real application of the laser beam.

The laser beam was born and many companies reproduced the methodology to apply them in various branches of knowledge, filing patents with innovations that to date have earned them millions.

The 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Cities CH for his contributions to the maser and subsequent development of the laser, sharing it with Russian scientists Nicolay G. Basov and Aleksandr M. Prokhorovof the Russian Lebedev Institute, which in parallel conduct studies, contribute and demonstrate the benefits of the laser beam with more efficient devices.
The scientific community has given these 3 numbers a thumbs up above those mentioned above, alleging that whoever invented lasers was really the evolutionary work and not the end result. Maiman died without having obtained the due requirement and Gordon Gould was for more than 30 years in litigation to obtain something more than the licenses already obtained and that only brought him money: he wanted the real recognition of being the integral inventor of lasers. It has obtained recognition in the courts, but for the scientific community it is still far from obtaining similar treatment.
